Do I need a big tree to support a treehouse?

No. We can build you a self-supported treehouse next to a tree.  But if you are after a structure completely separate from the ground, fully supported by the tree in question, you will need a big tree. The treehouse support tabs (treehouse attachment bolts) must be screwed into a stem with a diameter of at least 300mm. This provides an anchor of maximum strength and safety for the structure built on top.

We are happy to build you a structure involving a tree in many ways, even if the tree is not there for structural support.

Is maintenance required?

Treehouses are constantly moving due to tree growth, wind and expansion/contraction of the timber. The treehouse technology that we use allows for this movement, but does require yearly checks and adjustments. Some of the external areas such as decking and low pitched roofs can be susceptible to slime and algae buildup causing the surface to become wet and slippery over time. Annual cleaning can prevent this from occurring.

What timber do you use?

We mainly use C24 building-grade timber from our local supplier for the internal structures and sustainable oak for most external structural timber, which is locally sourced and milled at our local Cheshire-based sawmill.

Many local suppliers provide us with a wide range of sustainable building materials, depending on your requirements.

Do you offer maintenance?

Yes. We offer a maintenance service and would recommend an annual treehouse check-up for your peace of mind

How much does a treehouse cost?

Our standard family-size treehouse starts at £30,000.

Adults’ treehouses start at £30,000

Small children’s treehouses start at £10,000.

Ground-level playhouses start at £2500.

Kindly note that many factors can affect the cost. These factors could be the site conditions, the selected tree/trees, the build’s scale and complexity, and the chosen materials. It’s a good idea to have a budget in mind when you contact us so that we can suggest the best solution for you. Each build is a highly specialised piece of craftsmanship, and our high regard for quality and detail is reflected in our pricing.

Can I have a zip wire?

Yes. You can have a zip line, a swing, a rope bridge, or trampoline – if you have an idea, we will make it happen.

Do you build the treehouse onsite?

Some features of the treehouse may be prefabricated in our workshop, but providing there is enough space, we will build your treehouse onsite.

Are the treehouses strong enough for adults?

Yes, all our treehouses are built strong enough to accommodate many adults.

Is planning required to build a treehouse?

Yes, any platform above 300mm from the ground requires planning permission from your local council. For an additional fee, we can help you with the entire planning application, including artistic impressions and 2D drawings.

Can I move the treehouse in the future?

If you have plans to move your treehouse in the future we can design it to be dismantled and re-erected at an additional cost.

When do I make the payment?

Planning Phase – 100% site survey on completion.

Design Phase – 50% Upfront and 50 % on design sign-off.

Building Phase – 100% of the cost of materials and 30% of the labour fee is due upfront. 40% of labour costs are due halfway through the build, and 30% of labour costs are due on completion.

Does building a treehouse harm the tree?

We try to keep the process as harmless as possible to the tree and its surroundings. The technology we use is an invasive process, to begin with, but once installed, the tree will accept the TAB and as it grows, it will only become stronger. We also use screw piles for self-supported structures.

How long does it take?

The process takes two weeks to design and cost for a standard treehouse and around eight weeks to build. Any additions may cause the project to take longer.

What happens when the tree grows?

As the tree grows, the technology we use will allow for its movement. We would recommend an annual checkup to make any adjustments to changes caused by the growth of the tree.
